"This is a placeholder until someone says something really cool about Ragnarok."
Kale

Ragnarok is a highly secretive cabal of powerful mutants that has operated in some form for centuries. The common thread throughout its history has been its leader, an ancient mutant with the ability to transfer his consciousness from one body to another. Functionally immortal, this mutant has dedicated his, and sometimes her, considerable lifespan, intelligence, and resources to the end of manipulating the development of the human race. But only in the past century, when technology has finally caught up with his vision, has Ragnarok been able to begin work on its true goal: to take utter control of the evolution of humanity.

The organization is ruthless and amoral. They care nothing for individuals, populations, or governments. To them, all people are their test subjects, and the entire earth is their laboratory. With a combination of devastating mutant powers, unparalleled technology, and seemingly limitless funds, Ragnarok may represent the single greatest threat on earth to humanity in its current form.

Editor's note: If Mutants, Unite was a TV show, Ragnarok would be the mystery villain hinted at through the first season, gradually revealed through the second season, and actively engaged in the third season. This article represents the creative notes that would keep the writers on the same page as they develop this new threat. It's still very much a work in progress, and those of us who've been creating Ragnarok are still working on how their plans will manifest in our mutant world.

Gehenna
Gehenna is a small, landlocked nation in central Africa that borders the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the West and Rwanda and Burundi to the East. Until the mid-1990s, it had been ruled by a succession of brutal, petty warlords. When Ragnarok decided they needed a centralized location for their operations somewhere removed from the international eye, they came to Gehenna and easily toppled the ruling military regime. The new mutant rulers of Gehenna immediately closed the country's borders to the rest of the world. It is virtually impenetrable: all roads in and out of the country are heavily guarded; the wilderness is patrolled by genetically engineered animals; any aircraft that intrude on the country's airspace lose radio contact and disappear without a trace; even satellite images are entirely obscured. The country delivers occasional broadcasts in which a man who claims to be the democratically elected president assures the world that the people of Gehenna are well fed and happy, and that all their medical needs are met. All inquiries and offers of aid have been rebuffed. In all official capacities, the international community acts as though the country has simply disappeared off the map.
