A product of the SoroSuub Corporation, the Zelbinion was one of the first vessels to leave the SoroSuub yards after the liberation of Sullust from the Galactic Empire. Though near to completion already, she became one of the first ships that was officially commissioned for the Rebel Alliance, rather than being accquired by the Alliance through third parties or other means.
Early on in her career she entered service in the 3rd Fleet under Admiral Reshmar. A Quarran officer and member of the senior Army staff for the fleet, Colonel Quan Marivva was assigned aboard as the Commanding Officer to make use of the Carrier's impressive internal capacity as a base ship for his operations. Both the Zelbinion and the Colonel were later assigned to the 103rd Special Operations Squadron, as part of the unit commanded by Commodore Atlos Bensiik.
Air Group
The Zelbinion carries six Starfighter squadrons, as well as an additional Airspeeder squadron to provide air support cover for ground troops.
1 (Ace) Squadron - The first of seven squadrons aboard the Zelbinion, this RZ-1 A-Wing Interceptor squadron flies under the callsign "Ace", and represents the Air Wing's rapid-response fighter screen. The Aces are always the first unit launched, and because of the prestigious nickname and the hard-to-handle nature of their high-speed craft, the unit is usually populated by hotshot veteran pilots. Her gold-on-red colour scheme is inspired by an old maratime signal flag used on Corellia, representing the Number 1.
2 (Deuce) Squadron - The second Zelbinion squadron, Deuce Squadron is one of three T-65B X-Wing Starfighter squadrons that make up the affectionately-nicknamed "X Wing". With her sister squadrons (3 and 4), she provides the majority of the Wing's space superiority cover. Of the three X-Wing units the members of 2 Squadron are considered the least combat experience: almost a training squadron, with pilots transferred to other units as they become more adept. Based on the Number 2 signal flag, Deuce Squadron sports a red-on-gold paint scheme.
3 (Trinity) Squadron - Members of 3 Squadron fly under the callsign "Trinity". The second member of "X Wing", Trinity Squadron again provides space superiority cover for the Zelbinion and her forces. 3 Squadron is considered to be the "medium" unit aboard the Zelbinion, although because of resent losses the boundries between the various units have become somewhat hazy. Trinity Squadron sports red-on-blue colours.
4 (Terror) Squadron - Officially classified as Tera Squadron in reference to the scientific prefix associated with the number four, the callsign became corrupted among pilots partly because of the verbal similarity between the words, and partly because "Terror Squadron" was considered to have a more menacing sound. Led by the Zelbinion senior pilot, 4 Squadron is considered to be the elite unit aboard the Carrier, although that may well be through force of habit rather than the actual skills of the pilots. A placement in Terror Squadron is considered to be the most prestigious within the Zelbinion Air Wing. 4 Squadron sports red paintwork, detailed with a white diagonal cross. They are the third and final member of "X Wing".
5 (Ether) Squadron - Ether Squadron is named for the "fifth element" present in the history of some planetary cultures in the old Galactic Republic. One of two B-Wing Assault Fighter units aboard the Zelbinion, 5 Squadron sports gold paintwork with a blue diagonal cross as detailing.
6 (Hex) Squadron - The second B-Wing unit, Hex Squadron is the sixth and final Starfighter squadron stationed aboard the Zelbinion. Her paintwork features blue and white diagonal stripes.
7 (Zetta) Squadron - A dedicated Airspeeder unit, Zetta Squadron exists primarily to provide air support to the occupants of the 20 Bantha Assault Shuttles that the Zelbinion is able to deploy. Previously equipped with the T-47 Airspeeder model, the squadron now employs the more advanced V-Wing Airspeeder, sporting white-on-red paintwork.
