The Oran began life as a CR70 Corvette named Dregan's Pike. It functioned as an interstellar courier for a mid-level Republic diplomat: however, when Corellia invoked Contemplanys Hermi and withdrew from the Republic in protest of the Military Creation Act, the diplomat retired and his ship was consigned to the same fate.

The Destiny was constructed by Kuat Drive Yards during the Clone Wars, and served as a Republic Light Cruiser and escort during the Clone Wars. It had a fairly unremarkable career as part of the Open Circle Fleet, and survived the war intact, entering Imperial Service.

Repurchased by the Corellian Engineering Corporation, for use as a technology test-bed by the same team of engineers that developed the Vanguard c20 retrofit that brought the CR70 up to the same specs as the more heavily-armed CR90 Corvette. Their goal was to explore just how far the basic design could be taken, in the hopes of matching the military performance of designs from rival companies, such as the Marauder Corvette.

For several years, the Destiny served as a customs interdictor, patrolling Imperial supply lanes to guard against smuggling and piracy. With the advent of more versatile craft such as Customs Corvettes and Strike Cruisers however, the escort-centric Arquitens-class was largely phased out. The Destiny herself was ambushed and disabled shortly before she was due to be mothballed: after the crew abandoned ship, no efforts were made by the Imperial military to recover the craft.

In order to equip the Dregan's Pike as an interdictor, the design team installed a tractor beam generator, and swapped the turbolasers on the ventral turret for ion cannons. They also uprated the engines, allowing her to intercept most freighters and transports. Taking inspiration from the Charger c70 upgrade for the old Consular-class cruisers, the engineers installed point defence lasers to protect the ship's engines; they also sacrificed passenger accommodations to install larger generators and, taking advantage of the reduced occupancy, replaced two of the escape pods with quad laser turrets. The hyperdrive systems also received an extensive overhaul, shaving a few points off the FTL speed; and lastly, they installed a starship-grade torpedo launcher on the bow.
+
Left adrift, the Destiny was rediscovered by the Office of Naval Intelligence - a branch of the Alliance Navy working closely with Alliance Intelligence. After scrutinising Imperial military records in search of potential salvage, the Destiny was one of the candidates that was investigated and eventually brought back to Sullust for refit and repairs.

While the full upgrade package proved too expensive to be profitable, several of the developments were incorporated into other custom designs, as well as into the Assassin Corvette. The Dregan's Pike herself meanwhile remained with the CEC development team, used as a component in the testing of other upgrades and designs, or as a passenger transport as and when required. It was during one such courier mission that the Dregan's Pike was "ambushed", and allegedly destroyed by pirates.
+
Repairs were overseen by Captain Soto Terius, a former Republic Officer and engineer with the Corellian Engineering Corporation. Once operational, the Destiny was rolled into the Fourth Fleet - the Alliance force protecting the Sullustan Sector and operating in the surrounding space; Captain Terius was selected as her commanding officer.

In reality, the ship's destruction was staged by Soto Terius and members of the Corellian Resistance, in order to deliver the ship into the hands of the Rebel Alliance. The deception was necessary at first to disguise the origins of the ship, and to avoid any repercussions for the families of the defectors: towards that end, the Dregan's Pike was provided with forged transponder codes, and was renamed Oran.
+
When Terius later assumed command of Task Force 42, the Destiny became the flotilla's flagship.

The Destiny is an Arquitens-class Light Cruiser that serves as the flagship of Captain Soto Terius and the Destiny Task Force. Though considerably smaller and less armed than most flagships - and indeed, most ships in the task force - it was chosen because Captain Terius prefers to use "lead from the front" tactics, rather than "command from the rear".

History

The Destiny was constructed by Kuat Drive Yards during the Clone Wars, and served as a Republic Light Cruiser and escort during the Clone Wars. It had a fairly unremarkable career as part of the Open Circle Fleet, and survived the war intact, entering Imperial Service.

When Terius later assumed command of Task Force 42, the Destiny became the flotilla's flagship.
