The Horizon is a Star Destroyer of the Victory II-class, retired from active Imperial service years ago, and operated by a private military until it was acquired by the Rebel Alliance. She is a member of the 103rd Interdictor Squadron: part of Task Force 75. Unlike many Imperial vessels of her type, she does not carry a large contingent of ground forces, saccrificing her landing barges for a third Squadron of fighters, and carrying only a quarter of her standard compliment of troops.

Post-Reset

Launched in 24 BE, the Horizon was a member of the Victory Fleet: a formation of the first vessels of her class launched under Captains Jan Dodonna and Terrinald Screed during the Clone Wars. Deployed to counter the Separatist Bulwark-class Battlecruisers, the Horizon participated in a number of key battles during the latter stages of the conflict.

Along with many of her sister ships, she passed directly from Republic to Imperial service at the close of the war, and continued in that capacity for several years. However, with Rendili StarDrive eventually losing out on numerous production contracts to Kuat Drive Yards, the class was ultimately made redundant and was replaced with other classes of Star Destroyer, such as the much larger Imperator, and the smaller but similarly-equipped Vindicator. Some members of the class were refit, trading out missiles and atmospheric capabilities for ship-to-ship armaments as part of an upgrade to a Victory II-class configuration, before being deployed to the Outer Rim. Others were were retired from Imperial service, and were placed in mothballs at various salvage facilities. The remainder however - including the Horizon - were sold off to independant parties, such as the navies of neutral or unaligned planets, or Imperial Moffs seeking to reinforce their sector forces through private means.

The Horizon was one of the vessels sold; she was purchased by the Corporate Sector Authority, and deployed on anti-piracy and interdiction missions for several years. Eventually however she fell on the wrong side of fluxuations in the Corporate Sector budget; fifteen months after Battle of Endor, she was axed from service there as well. The intention was for the Horizon to be stripped of any useful systems and resources, and then set on a collision course with the nearest star. The Rebel Alliance intervened however, and was able to appropriate the craft while still in moderate working order; they were able to commendeer the ship and jump away before the Corporate Sector could respond and stop them.

Requiring the ship to be active as swiftly as possible, the ship underwent a rushed series of repairs and rennovations at the Mon Calamari Shipyards before being pressed into service. Command was given to Captain Vansen Tyree - a Republic and Imperial veteran who had formerly served as Exectutive Officer aboard one of the ships in the Victory Fleet. Along with his new ship he gained command of the 103rd Interdictor Squadron, to which the vessel was assigned. (Two Roads Diverged...)

As part of the 103rd, the Horizon participated in the Battle of Bothawui. Following a distraction assault at Mandal by a large Rebel fleet - drawing the bulk Imperial forces away from Bothawui itself - the Horizon and her escorts jumped in-system. With much of the Imperial ships gone, the Moff was forced to rely on Bothan-controlled vessels for defense; efforts by Rebel boarding parties and Bothan insurgents amongst the crew were able to overthrow Imperial control of those vessels, allowing the Squadron to make the system secure in advance of the arrival of Rebel ground forces. (Liberation - Battle of Bothawui)

Some months later, Tyree was promoted to Commodore. The 103rd was combined with the 21st Strike Group, in order to form Task Force 75; with Tyree as the Task Force Commander, the Horizon became the unit's flagship.
