The Chiss Ascendancy, sometimes termed Chiss Space or the Chiss Empire by outsiders, was a portion of the galaxy just inside the Unknown Regions that was ruled by the Chiss.

History

The Chiss were very xenophobic, believing themselves to be superior to all others. Because of this, the Chiss were as isolationist as possible. They rarely engaged in trade with those outside their borders. Despite their isolationism, Chiss goods, like charrics, could be found in Republic markets. The vast financial holdings of the Chiss kept their supply lines running and also provided them access to a number of independent shipyards which they used to keep their vessels on constant patrol. It was through such methods that the Chiss maintained a poacher base at the Etyyy hunting grounds on Kashyyyk. At some point prior to 1,000 BBY, the Brotherhood of Darkness raided the Unknown Regions to bolster their own forces. As part of this operation, a regiment of Chiss were relocated to Thule.

Leadership

The Chiss were governed by an oligarchy of four extended Ruling Families from House Palace, located in the city of Csaplar. Each family was headed by Aristocra who wore particular colors to indicate their clan and family loyalties. Issues were siphoned up through the parliament to a cabinet of appointed governors, and then to the ruling families, where a decision made by the parliament and/or cabinet could be approved for action.

• Executive Branch
  • House Csapla was a Chiss Ruling Family responsible for colonial affairs, agriculture, and redistribution of resources, making it the most important House in the Chiss Ascendancy.
  • House Nuruodo, was a Chiss kin-group from Naporar, responsible for military and foreign affairs, including the command of the Chiss Expansionary Defense Force and the House Phalanxes. House Nuruodo would be ranked as second, considering the importance of warfare on Chiss society.
  • House Inrokini was a Chiss kin-group from Csaus, responsible for industry and non-military science making it the third ranked house.
  • House Sabosen was a Chiss kin-group from Sposia, responsible for social issues such as justice, health, and education. It was the forth and last house of the Ruling families.
  • The Governors Council was a Cabinet of 28 Governors, one from each colony, that operated as the Main Executive body of the Ascendancy.
• Legislative Branch
  • Council of Families was the committee of the leaders of all of House Families of the Chiss Ascendancy. It insured that each Family remained on equal footing. Although the four extended ruling families were not known to face power struggles, five lesser clans often vied for greater authority and power, such as House Chaf, which was considered the fifth ruling family.
  • Chiss Parliament or Chiss Senate, was the legislature of the Chiss. The Parliament was made up of members democratically elected from the twenty eight colonies of the Chiss Ascendancy. Day to day decisions would be made by the Parliament, while more complex issues would be deferred to the Cabinet and the Ruling Families.
• Judicial Branch
  • Chiss Judicial Court was the main judicial court for the Chiss Ascendancy. It dealt with Civil and Military judgments and operated from Csaplar.
  • Chiss Judicial Department was the law enforcement force of the Chiss Ascendancy. It operated on all 28 colonies and was headquartered on the Sabosen home world of Sposia.

• Avidich system - The Avidich system was a star system located within Chiss Space in the Unknown Regions of the galaxy. The system contained the planet Avidich, which was used by the Chiss to cultivate edible lichens.
• Bogo Rai system - The Bogo Rai system was a star system located within the Unknown Regions of the galaxy.[1] It contained the planet Bogo Rai.
• Celwis system - The Celwis system was a star system located within the Chiss Ascendancy that contained the planet Celwis.
• Cioral system - The Cioral system was a star system located within the Chiss Ascendancy that contained the planet Cioral.
• Copero system - The Copero system was a star system located within the Chiss Ascendancy that contained the planet Copero.
• Cormit system - The Cormit system was a star system located within the Chiss Ascendancy that contained the planet Cormit.
• Crustai system - The Crustai system lay on the frontier of the Chiss Ascendancy. The second planet, also known as Crustai. An asteroid in the system served as the headquarters for Picket Force Two of the Chiss Expansionary Defense Force.
• Csaus system - The Csaus system was a star system located within the Chiss Ascendancy that contained the planet Csaus.
• Csilla system - The Csilla system was located deep within Chiss Space and contained the planet Csilla.
• Jamiron system - The Jamiron system was a star system located within the Chiss Ascendancy that contained the planet Jamiron.
• Kinoss system - The Kinoss system was a star system located within the Chiss Ascendancy that contained the planet Kinoss.
• Klasse Ephemora system - The Klasse Ephemora system consisted of the star Klasse Ephemora A and the gas giant planet Mobus. The system was located on the far side of the Chiss Ascendancy from the Galactic Core. It was around Mobus that the living planet Zonama Sekot orbits
• Massoss system - The Massoss system was a star system located within the Chiss Ascendancy that contained the planet Massoss.
• Noris system - The Noris system was a star system located within the Chiss Ascendancy that contained the planet Noris.
• Ool system - The Ool system was a star system located within the Chiss Ascendancy that contained the planet Ool.
• Ornfra system - The Ornfra system was a star system located within the Chiss Ascendancy that contained the planet Ornfra.
• Oyokal system - The Oyokal system was a star system located within the Chiss Ascendancy that contained the planet Oyokal.
• Pesfavri system - The Pesfavri system was a star system located within the Chiss Ascendancy that contained the planet Pesfavri.
• Rentor system - The Rentor system was a star system located within the Chiss Ascendancy that contained the planet Rentor.
• Rhigar system - The Rhigar system was a star system located in the Rata Nebula, within the Chiss Ascendancy that contained the planet Rhigar. A secret Chiss military academy is located on Rhigar
• S-K system - The S-K system was a star system located within the Chiss Space of the Unknown Regions that contained the planet Thearterra
• Sarvchi system - The Sarvchi system was a star system located within the Chiss Ascendancy that contained the planet Sarvchi.
• Schesa system - The Schesa system was a star system located within the Chiss Ascendancy that contained the planet Schesa.
• Sharb system - The Sharb system was a star system located within the Chiss Ascendancy that contained the planet Sharb.
• Shihon system - The Shihon system was a star system located within the Chiss Ascendancy that contained the planet Shihon.
• Sposia system - The Sposia system was a star system located within the Chiss Ascendancy that contained the planet Sposia.
• Thrago system - The Thrago system was a star system located within the Chiss Space of the Unknown Regions that contained the moon Thrago.
• Yashuvhu system - The Yashuvhu system was a star system located within the Chiss Space of the Unknown Regions that contained the planet Yashuvhu.

Planets

• Avidich - Avidich was a planet located in the Avidich system in the Unknown Regions within the core territory of the Chiss Ascendancy at galactic coordinates E-8. It was located on the Vaagari Corridor, a hyperlane that ran through the Unknown Regions. Avidich was a mountainous world with peaks that were considered impressive. The planet was used by the Chiss species to cultivate edible lichens.
• Bogo Rai - Bogo Rai was a planet within the Bogo Rai system in the Unknown Regions where the Chiss fought the famous Battle of Bogo Rai. This planet resided off the Cressus Route hyperspace lane.
• Celwis - Celwis was a planet of the Chiss Ascendancy in the Celwis system of the Unknown Regions. It was located at the galactic coordinates F-8 on the Vaagari Corridor, a hyperlane that ran through the Unknown Regions. Celwis was once regularly attacked by alien aggressors, but it eventually became a demonstration of Chiss military strength shortly after the formation of the Chiss Expansionary Defense Force

• Colonial Station Cam'co - Colonial Station Cam'co was a Colonial Station inside Chiss Space and the Ascendancy's core territory, within the Unknown Regions.
• Colonial Station Chaf - Colonial Station Chaf was a Colonial Station inside Chiss Space and the Ascendancy's core territory, within the Unknown Regions.
• The Redoubt - The Redoubt, formally the Chiss Redoubt, was a remote star cluster in Chiss space that contained at least ten habitable planets and hundreds of stars. Discovered over 200 years prior to 22 ABY and claimed by the CEDF, the cluster was to be used as the site of a last stand, in the event that Chiss space was overrun by any foreign invader. Exploration of the Redoubt by the Chiss only began in earnest around 27 BBY.
