Born on Earth, Laran moved to Elyssium when she was young. Having grown up on a planet with a population that is half alien, the First Lieutenant is well accustomed to dealing with the cornucopia of alien races in both Citadel space and the Skyllian Verge, an asset the Systems Alliance has found to be very useful... along with her biotic talents.
Identified at a young age as having nascent biotic abilities, Laran was quickly inducted into the L3 program. She endured rigorous mental training and biofeedback therapy and stubbornly clawed her way tooth and nail into Aliiance special forces.
Always looking for the next big challenge and always in search for an edge over the host of threats to the Systems Alliance, Katrin willfully underwent the dangerous surgeries to upgrade to the L4 L4 biotic implants under the Ascension Program.
Even at 27, she is a veteran of many battles, including the Skyllian Blitz. The assault on her homeworld hardened Laran nearly to an extreme. In her anger during the raid against the mercenary headquarters on Torfan, she and her squad slaughtered everyone they came across, even those that surrendered. Nikolai Odell managed to calm the carnage before the Lieutenant and her squad purged the entire base.
Her experiences and interaction with Commander Odell as a mentor of sorts have done much to trade her initial rash behavior for a more calculating mind or the years... though she is now and again prone to high-risk high-reward actions.
